REHOBOTH BEACH, DELEWARE

Rehoboth, Deleware, a beach community on the shores of Deleware, its very hard to describe what this town is and what it isn't. There is no real strong personality here, yet it has everything to offer.

What bothered me most were the local people, mostly from the Washington, DC area, all coming in for the week ends acting as if this was some great hot spot or secret hideaway, it was neither. The real locals in town seem to be imported from Bulgaria to serve as wait staff and maids etc. Not sure why college students were not here working for summer jobs at a beach resort.

The other locals were still people who did not grow up in this town, but began coming many moons ago, and decided to buy a small house and stay. I didn't find the locals overly friendly..

The GAY community was a lot better, it was small  sort of a mini, Fire Island, or Ptown, or Key West, but it was not a really alive fun gay community, but they were nice, friendly and great to be around, and very helpful about restaurants etc.

The amusements, were there and not a "jersey feel" also more calm and bland with a "wanna be" honky tonk feel....

The shopping was very nice, lots of boutiques and better quality items to look at, but mostly conservative and not fashion forward.

The restaurants get great reviews with celebrity chefs etc. we did not find them all that great or a vibe that made us want to run back. The food was good in all the places, just not over the top special.

The hotels and motels were all fine, a few a bit more special than others, but nothing like OMG, this was fantastic

What was really missing was a vibe, a scene, music in the air and warmth and super friendly feeling. It was like "stepford version" of what going to a beach vacation was like. It was all very clean, quiet, grainy sandy beaching... Just not exciting.. BTW after 10PM its gets very quiet, but safe

I would say this is a great destination for a family vacation, it has all the ingredients for a week away at the beach, but no real charm...

Hotels I recommend

Bellmore.... stuffy but nice, good location you can walk to the beach, or they will drive you in a golf cart. Probably most upscale hotel in area

Boardwalk Plaza Hotel... on the beach a bit touristy but ocean view

The Avenue.... new and close to the beach, works well
